One of the absolute best things about Joy Division was Ian Curtis's vocal delivery. Every single lyric he sang was overflowing with exquisite pain and beauty, pouring himself directly onto the record. It made their songs feel like high art instead of mere music. Unfortunately, there's absolutely fuck all of that on display here. I get that Rollo's heart is in the right place, wanting to cover a song that obviously means a lot to him. But the new vocals don't pack any kind of punch, and Tensnake's remix comes across as a heavily sedated version of 'West End Girls'.
