I'm all for a cheeky sample. Done correctly, it can remind you of why you fell in love with a song in the first place. But if you're going to do it, you have to go balls deep. You can't use it halfheartedly like someone peeking around a doorframe. Tensnake's new single 'Rooftop' includes a half-arsed version of the keyboard riff from Evelyn 'Champagne' King's classic 'Love Come Down', dumping it on generic beats like a wet lettuce leaf. It's a rare misstep from a typically excellent producer. Time to listen to 'Coma Cat' on repeat until I cheer up.
