Don't be suckered in by the friendly piano at the beginning of this new single from St. Vincent. 'Pay Your Way In Pain' is gloriously sleazy from start to finish. It's also one of the most exciting songs I've heard so far this year. Imagine being in 1970s NYC and walking into a party somewhere in Harlem on a Monday morning after a full weekend of clubbing, off your tits on Qualuudes, only to have your brain bombarded by a soundtrack put together by David Bowie, George Clinton, the cast of Bugsy Malone. You need this song in your life.
