Soft Cell's cover of 'Tainted Love' is forty years old in 2021. Close your eyes and spend a minute processing that information. Do you feel as old as me now? I have a vague recollection of a music-obsessed me, at the age of seven, seeing it on Top of the Pops and becoming instantly obsessed. Nothing much has altered on that front. It still sounds otherworldly and futuristic to me, and now that I know the original Northern Soul version too, probably even more so. This extended mix doesn't really reinvent the wheel. But why change something that's already perfect?
