Firstly, you should check out Sawayama's version of 'Enter Sandman' from the Metallica covers album from last year if you haven't already. It's brilliant and proof that she can embrace the darker side of Pop. But her new single, 'This Hell', is a different kind of animal altogether. A horse, to be exact. Full of her trademark lyrical power and aggression, it's a giant FUCK YOU to religious and social intolerance. But everything else on the track could have easily been lifted straight out of the late 90s Shania Twain Country-Pop songbook. It's all very confusing, in a good way.
