Neil Tennant is an extraordinary songwriter. Witty, intelligent and has mastered the art of placing words exactly where they need to be to create the perfect song. So it goes without saying that lyrically 'Living In The Past' is flawless. Inspired by the recent unveiling of a new statue of Stalin, it's an open attack on Russia, written as if Putin himself is singing it. It's a complete home run in terms of content. However, what's throwing me off here is that musically it sounds almost identical to 'The Rose' by Bette Midler. It's spooky. It's still a cracker, though.
