Kieran Hebden & William Tyler - Darkness, Darkness

'Darkness, Darkness' is a truly exceptional record. We're talking about 'Unfinished Sympathy' or 'Gorecki' levels of perfection here. A moody, beat-laden cinematic reworking of a 1969 Youngbloods track (although the vocals are lifted from a psychedelic Soul cover by Gloria Loring from the same year) from Kieran Hebden (AKA Four Tet) and guitarist William Tyler. As you'd expect from two artists of this calibre, every elemental has been put together meticulously, and despite its ten-minute runtime, not a second of it feels unnecessary. Essential listening (ideally on a pair of noise cancelling headphones, in a big comfy chair).
