'Before We Drown' is taken from last year's 'Memento Mori' album, which came about after the unexpected passing of band member Andy Fletcher and, to these ears, is one of the best singles they've released in years. A study on how you pick yourself up and move forward after a traumatic event, it's the perfect showcase for Gahan's evergreen vocals alongside their current darker, synth-driven sound. There's also an incredible Anton Corbijn-directed video that perfectly matches the track and a great package of remixes. But I'll stick with the original for now because this is classic Depeche Mode.
