I've mentioned this before, but I was a child of the Daisy Age. Late 80s Hip-Hop was, and still is, my thing. Pete Rock, undeniably one of the greatest producers of the genre, creating music for the likes of EPMD and Brand Nubian, has teamed up with the incomparable Common for 'Wise Up', and it's blown me away. A powerful, classic-sounding track, it's one of those releases where my words can't fully express its brilliance, and you should just dive in headfirst. If you've enjoyed a single rap tune over the years, stop everything right now and listen to this.
